Son of a hippie and a Nazi officer, Kingsley musician Mathew Acab shares his heart-warming journey from living in the woods to fighting against the establishment
Mathew Acab, Kingsley musician and activist, has made it his mission to educate the youth what he believes is the establishment’s corruption through his original music. His mum bought him his first guitar which kickstarted his music career.
“The first time I remember hearing any guitar music was Cat Stevens, I think my mother was listening to it back in the 80s.” Mathew recalls. “Something about the harmonics and the guitar riff just stayed with me.”
Acab rejected a typical life, quitting his stressful job as a care worker to write songs living in the woods, drinking pond water to survive. He now lives in Northampton, and legally changed his surname to Acab (referencing the movement All Cops Are B*stards) in defiance of the police force. He claims that seeing executions and gun threats from police officers encouraged this bold move.
Mathew is often seen wearing a unique silver skull necklace that he earnt from busking. His recent gigs are often at open mic nights at the Lord Byron, although he suggests it be named the Acab Arms. His poetry can be found on the Northampton Borough Council racecourse sign.
