The Great British Spring Clean (GBSC) begins on March 17 as communities across the country prepare to tidy up their local public places.
As the nation's biggest mass-action environmental campaign enters its eighth year, the GBSC looks to protect the environment and eliminate litter, as well as to improve public areas.
Data collected by the charity behind the initiative, Keep Britain Tidy, found that only 43% of UK adults currently agree that they feel proud of their community.
Part of the mission of the spring clean is to re-instil a sense of pride in local communities, part of which can be achieved through the simple action of litter-picking, the charity says.
Additionally, Keep Britain Tidy reported that 85% of those who volunteered in last year's GBSC noticed an immediate visible difference and felt more pride in their local community.
Would you agree that you feel proud of your Kingsley community?
Yes
No
Last year just under half a million bags of rubbish were pledged to be collected, and
so far more than 300,000 bags of rubbish have already been pledged for this year.
As reported last month by The Kingsley Courier, fly-tipping and inappropriate waste disposal has become a problem in Kingsley, with many residents complaining about the state of their streets.
Kingsley locals have even taken to social media to express their views on the issue and made clear that there is a local appetite for action to clear up the streets.
One local commented online: "I've lived in Kingsley all my life and I hate to say this but people take no pride in where they live".
Another local commented on the recurrent littering and fly-tipping on Kingsley Park Terrace:
"More rubbish in the usual place! Why don't people take a bit of pride in where they live?".
Those who live in Kingsley and wish to take part in a community tidy up have to look no further than Heathers café.
Beginning earlier this week, the café and local volunteers have already begun litter-picking sessions in support of the GBSC, in which 8 bags of rubbish have already been collected and removed from the local community.
The café will continue to run litter picks from on 20 and 27 March at 2pm, with equipment provided.
